Heat and Mass Transfer Laboratory


Location:- Ground Floor Mechanical Engineering Block

Lab Objective:- To determine the pressure measured with different pressure measuring device and then to compare the measured value, To demonstrate the application of temperature scales and fixed points using mercury glass thermometer, bimetallic thermometer, thermocouple, resistance temperature detector, and thermistor, To demonstrate the additive effect of combining like thermocouples in a series configuration, To demonstrate the use of thermal indicators for surface temperature measurement, To demonstrate use of wet & dry bulb hygrometer in determining relative humidity, Calibrate the temperature indicator using the ice point and boiling point of water as fixed point to compare the characteristic responses and accuracy of the measurement techniques incorporated on the bench, To demonstrate the radiative heat transfer laws i.e. show that the intensity of radiation on a surface is inversely proportional to the square of the distance of the surface from radiation source. To find the isothermal and volumetric efficiency of air compressor, General observation of the forced draught cooling tower, To investigate the effect of cooling load on wet bulb approach. To investigate the effect of air velocity on wet bulb approach. To investigate the relationship between cooling load and cooling range. To study the effects in concentric tube heat exchanger by varying flow rate of hot water and by keeping the constant flow rate of cold water (parallel Flow). Safety Regulations:- Helmets and gloves are mandatory to use while performing laboratory experiments. Presence of Lab Assistant is mandatory while performing experiments. Also, the Extra care is required for delicate and sensitive apparatus
